I read most of this series many years ago. Adams has a wonderful sense of humor, this is a great series for teenagers (the younger ones might not pick up all the sly references but it's worth a try). I don't recall anything offensive in it, unless you are bothered by the destruction of the Earth!
If anything, the radio series was even better. Would be great for a long drive, if you can find it. The books would probably read-aloud quite well, since the radio series worked out.
