I read these stories long after I was (apparently) too old for them, and enjoyed them. I still like them. What appeals is the good old-fashioned virtue displayed by the characters (as well as familiar vices). Great moral instruction; quaint and charming. As yet, our 4-yr-old hasn't been hooked on it, but I keep trying. The book may actually fit better with an older age group, oddly enough. The stories should read out loud well.
