Classic Storm & Screen
![]() |
Your wood windows are an important visual aspect of your home. If you are considering weatherization options, storm windows protect and insulate your home from the elements, while increasing energy efficiency. Converting your wood windows to vinyl or aluminum; may detract from your home's architectural appeal.
Classic wooden storm windows make sense. The life expectancy of a vinyl window is approximately 20 years. Vinyl window insulated unit seals are designed to last 10 years or less, and condensation may appear sooner than later. A properly maintained wood window should last over 100 years.
Historic storm window construction incorporated a single glass pane. Our classic sash utilizes double pane insulated units within the storm frame (giving you 3 panes total), which accounts for higher insulating R values. The warm wood edges efficiently insulate the sealed units. This design should outperform and outlast all modern replacement products at a lower cost.
The storm sash is milled from vertical grained fir, with the same mortise & tenon joinery used in your original windows. Our window and screen sash maybe ordered in primer or stain. Foam weather strips insulate each sash frame. If condensation appears, only the insulated storm unit requires replacement, leaving your original windows intact.
Window Insulation R Values : Single glass pane = 0.91, Vinyl double insulating glass 3/16" air space = 1.61 or 1/4" air space = 1.69, Single pane w/single pane storm = 2.00, Single pane w/ our Classic double pane insulated unit (3/8" airspace) = exceeds 3.15 (>R value).
