Scrap Quilts Using Fast Patch, written in 1991, is now out of print. You won't find it at stores, but you can still get copies directly from me. Instead of writing an updated version, I have written a new book on just the Woodpile block, Sizzling Quilts from a Simple Block Later I might write a book on the strip-pieced Flying Geese or Garden Path. Who knows?
Here's a summary of what's in Scrap Quilts Using Fast Patch:
Two-Tone Blocks
This is a sample of the many pages of creative ways to arrange Log Cabin, Woodpile, or any other blocks with a diagonal split.
Color photos give more quilt arrangements for Two-Tone
blocks. For example, here is a Nifty Nine-Patch quilt made of strip-pieced
triangles and squares.
My personal favorite Two-Tone block is Garden Path. This
wonderful block resembles Drunkard's Path but is much easier to piece since
there aren't any curves.
New!
I recently wrote a 32-page booklet on Garden Path, published
March, 2001. Check it out at the Garden Path
page.
The most famous Two-Tone block is Log Cabin. This book includes some Log Cabin projects, then I introduce the Woodpile block as a strip-pieced substitute. Woodpile is new to most people and has many creative possibilities, so I decided to write a whole book on it. This site has information on the Woodpile block and the new book, Sizzling Quilts from a Simple Block. Here is one example of a Woodpile quilt:
The Chapter on Strip-pieced Flying Geese is a challenging one. I have a very unusual way to make this block! I don't have room here to explain it, but here are "Before" and "After" photos from the book for you to think about.
The Flying Geese block may end up in a book by itself later too, but I haven't started writing one. If you are especially interested in this block, ask me for a free handout on a small Wild Goose Chase project when you order Scrap Quilts Using Fast Patch.
